Hiking Rio Celeste and Tenorio National Park

A legend tells that after God was done painting the sky, he washed his brushes in the river that now bears the name of Rio Celeste (Light Blue River).

We start the walk at the Lodge at 08:00 am, until get to the park. After paying the park entry’s fee, we start the hike through this Humid Forest ecosystem, with the chance to observe various animal species and exuberant flora surrounding us. Along the walk we will discover the magnificent Rio Celeste waterfall, and also the place where the river dyes itself into that amazing light blue coloration.

Note on the Rio Celeste: It is possible that during extreme weather conditions of constant, long-lasting, heavy rains, the river may lose its coloration due to mud carried in the water. However, a few hours (5 or 6) of calm weather can restore the expected coloration. With this eventual exception mentioned above, The Rio Celeste can be visited any time of the year.

Birdwatching Tour

The geographical situation, the local weather, the temperature and rain fall of this privately owned Reserve, contributes in making of this ecosystem one of the most bio diverse of the Pluvial Life Zone, to the point of even providing endemic characteristics to several animal and flora species. In this area one may, with luck, spot the rare Tody Motmot or other very rare species such as the Black Faced Ant Thrush. Commonly, can be observed many other bird species such as Tanagers, Toucans, Parakeets, Parrots, Hawks or wood creepers, easily found as we walk the trails or isolated gravel roads used for our excursions, accompanied by fully equipped naturalist tour guides, for a wonderful natural experience.

Tenorio River White Water Rafting

The white, pristine water of the Guanacaste area makes for a beautiful river on which to raft. The water rises at Tenorio Volcano by the Guanacaste mountain range, and the area offers about 20 kilometers of rapids and a magnificent tropical forest landscape.

You don’t need prior rafting experience but this is class III and IV whitewater rafting. Our experienced staff will make you feel confident and our modern and certified equipment will allow you to mount the rapids smoothly.

Rio Frio Kayak Safari

We paddle along the Rio Frio to observe several species of animals such as spider monkeys, white-face monkey, howler monkeys, iguanas and Caiman. A place with an impressive scenic beauty; time passes while we observe birds on the flooded forest and discover gaps and sites which appear unexplored.

Arenal Volcano & Hot Springs

Only 1:30 hours of driving through some of the most important agriculture and tourism region in the country, we arrive at La Fortuna and its main feature, the Arenal Volcano, emerging out of the San Carlos plains, showing its magnificence to all visitors and locals alike. Walking the Arenal Volcano National Park Trails will be the first activity, along a 3 kilometers trail and a 2 hour hike through the area that was devastated by the last major eruption of the mighty mountain (1968).

You will also have the opportunity to witness some of the present activity (depending on weather conditions), walk the 1992 lava flow and learn more about volcanoes in Costa Rica. After these activities you will enjoy a great lunch at one of the local restaurants in town, followed by an afternoon visit to a Hot Springs Center, with ample time to relax your mind and body in these therapeutic volcanic hot springs surrounded by lush nature and humid forest. Caño Negro Wildlife

Driving through one of the most important agriculture areas in the north side of the country (Caribbean slopes), we arrive at Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge; this ecosystem is considered to be one of the best place on the continent for bird watching. Also, in addition to an abundance of birds, Caño Negro is also home to many other interesting animals, such as sloths, three types of monkeys, caimans, lizards, bats, - more wildlife than what you ever imagine! - And a variety of flora native of the wetlands.

Our tour to this beautiful region leaves from your hotel and travels approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to Caño Negro, a rustic village near the Nicaraguan border. Here will begin our boat tour into this incredible ecosystem, the wetlands. We will work our way slowly upstream stopping along the way to observe the various animals spotted. Around noon we will stop at a nice local restaurant for a typical Costa Rican lunch before we start the way back to hotel.

Tenorio Safari Float Tour

Hanging Bridges

The geographical location, the weather, the temperature and rainfall of this privately owned reserve makes this walk unforgettable.

The trail will bring you through the forest – a paradise for birdwatchers! The Tenorio area is home to some 350 bird species out of about 820 found in the whole country. You’ll likely spot monkeys and sloths, too. The walk takes you over three hanging bridges that connect the 2.2 km trail, giving you a perspective of the forest that only scientists used to get, at a height of above 50 meters.

Tubing in Rio Celeste

Horseback Riding Tours

Finca Verde Cultural Tour

The tour begins with guest pick up at the hotel’s front desk. From there we make our way to the community of Bijagua, and the journey combines agroecology with the area’s culture. Upon arrival at the property’s facilities, we begin our walk of approximately 90 minutes on an easily accessible trail which extends for about a mile. During the trip you may visualize different fauna such as sloths, frogs, snakes, birds and others.

Night Walk Tour

We start the walk at the Hotel at 6 pm in a twilight tour until get to a near forest trail. Here we are going to walk through this Humid Forest ecosystem, being this a special time to observe when various animal species as insects, snakes and amphibians are waking up, as well at this time many kinds animals are looking for their nests. If we are lucky we may see.

Stand Up Paddle Tour

Venado Caves

In the Miocene period around 15 to 20 million years ago were submerged in the deep ocean for that long time The Venado Caves. Due to tectonic plate movement and now part of the earth`s surface the caves are composed of limestone, stalactites and stalagmites, crossed by an underground river which makes it very interesting to travel within them. The trip begins after pick you up at the hotel, and then we drive for about one hour until get to a farm were at the reception they are waiting us with the gear we need as rubber boots, helmet and flashlights. After a short walk we will find the cave entrance and once here we start an incredible hike were we will be able to see bats, spiders and all this mystical formations surrounding
